Holy Sonnet XIV - John Donne

Batter my heart, three-personed God;
for you As yet but knock, breathe,
shine, and seek to mend; That I may rise
and stand, o'erthrow me, and bend
Your force to break, blow, burn, and
make me new. I, like an usurped town,
to another due, Labor to admit you, but
O, to no end; Reason, your viceroy in me,
me should defend, but is captived,
and proves weak or untrue. yet dearly I love you,
and would be loved fain, But
am betrothed unto your enemy. Divorce
me, untie or break that knot again; Take
me to you, imprison me, for I, Except
you enthrall me, never shall be free, Nor
even chaste, except you ravish me.

For all of you English nerds out there, this is actually 16 lines, not 14, so I got the line breaks wrong. However, This is one of my favorite poems. It so accurately describes my heart and how I long for God.

Edinburgh

Today I had the privledge of leading the Road Trippers to Edinburgh for the day. It was really fun! We went to the Scottish Museum, and they spent an hour reflecting on Scottish history and how it reflects in today's culture. We then turned them loose. I spent the afternoon with Lilly and Heather. We toured the castle and had a lot of fun! The other cool part was that there were a few of them who loved literature and history as much as I do, so we had an awesome conversation on the train ride!

Romans

Romans 8:26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings to deep for words.

Romans 13:11-14 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.

Romans 14:5 One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind.

God's Amazingness!

So God is totally amazing! I was on the phone with Adam yesterday afternoon, and I was looking at my funds for this month, and they were pretty low and I had to pay taxes (which aren't taken directly out of my check). We prayed and I checked again this morning, and God provided the amount I needed! Thanks be to God!

Kablooie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I had intended to blog a bit before this (and this is bad news for any who read my blog for the awesomely cool pics, but my computer totally crashed on Tuesday. I had been listening to music on it all night, and I went to turn it on after prayer. It asked which mode I wanted to start it in, so I selected "normal". Then it came up with a blue screen with the words "insurmountable boot error" on it. We tried practically everything to no avail. Finally, yesterday, we wiped my hard drive, I lost everything. My friend David was awesome and totally helped me reinstall all my drivers. Now I just have to take a lot more pics!

Fussball!

So David and I spent pretty much all afternoon and evening today watching the World Cup. It was pretty exciting! The atmosphere at Curlers was really electric! England was playing Portugal and the crowd was split on who they were supporting. There were two guys on the couch in front of the screen wearing Portugal jerseys and who would stand and sing the Portuguese national anthem from time to time (in Portuguese!). That was pretty fun. Most who supported Portugal did so because they didn't want to see England win. Those at home who are unfamiliar with how the Cup works, England lost, so they are now out of the running. It was wild to be in the middle of such a loud crowd yelling and screaming, and also exciting when Portugal won! This evening's game wasn't as cool, no one really cared as it was just France and Brazil. Initially I was cheering for Brazil, however, I was so tired that I just wanted a team to win without having to go into overtime and penalties like the previous game had. France won 1-0 in the normal time, so I was happy. Go Germany!!!!!!!
