"Lord, cleanse me from my secret faults, and spare Thy servant from the power of the enemy." - Augustine of Hippo (quote taken from The Confessions of St. Augustine)

I love this quote! It reminds me so much of Psalm 139 where David cries "Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." (verses 23-24). This idea really resonates with me. Whenever I am on spiritual retreat, I pray this psalm. It is my passionate desire to be pure before God. I realize that I have sinned and that there may be internal sins I don't even know. I praise God for the blood of Jesus which purifies us, however, I still feel distant from God occasionally. To me this quote seems so honest and gut wrenching - a deep desire to be clean and pure before our beautiful Creator.
